Liz Newbigging

Liz qualified as an occupational therapist from the Glasgow School of Occupational Therapy in 1982. She has worked in hospitals for 12 years in the areas of orthopaedics, medical, care of the elderly and young disabled. Since 1994, Liz has worked in the field of brain injury as a senior clinician. In 2004, Liz upgraded her original Diploma in Occupational Therapy to a BScOT at Glasgow Caledonian University, achieving Honours passes in the ergonomics and counselling modules. She gained an AMPS qualification in 2006 and a Masters module in Occupational Rehabilitation in 2007.
Liz’s 14 years experience within the field of brain injury includes assessment of adults with brain injury and a range of neurological conditions. She worked initially at Scotcare Brain Injury Unit for two years. Following this, Liz worked within a pre-vocational programme with Rehab Scotland providing community-based rehabilitation to adults. Since then, Liz has worked as a senior clinician with CRABIS, a service provided by West Lothian CHCP. Liz is heavily involved in pre-employment rehabilitation and job retention with her clients and has worked with the NHS Occupational Health physician on many occasions, as well as liaising with a range of employers discussing return to work programmes and phased returns.
Liz has worked with CMS since 2001 preparing medico-legal reports. As an experienced occupational therapist, she now provides supervision to the case managers providing needs and equipment reports, also acting in a consultative capacity to case managers regarding employment, clinical and rehabilitation matters.
A key part of her role now is in collating clinical data to evaluate therapeutic interventions and progress in community based rehabilitation.”
