We accept referrals from pursuer/plaintiff and defenders and also accept joint instruction.

We have extensive medico-legal experience. Those reporting have non-litigating experience of the kinds of cases in which they report. We are able to provide psychological and neuropsychological reports in the areas shown on the map.

Neuropsychological reports - where there is known or suspected injury to the brain.

Brain injury may arise from:

  • Trauma (e.g. road traffic accident, assault)
  • Anaesthetic accident
  • Overdose
  • Brain haemorrhage (e.g. subarachnoid haemorrhage secondary to aneurysm)
  • Some of these may arise in a medico-legal context due to incorrect or late diagnosis.
Neuropsychological assessment includes:
  • Interview with the injured person, including:
    • clinical history
    • background
    • current symptoms
  • Separate interview with a relative/ friend, as the patient may forget important information, or may lack insight (and give a falsely optimistic view of his/her position).
The neuropsychological assessment should also include standard measures of:
  • Language
  • Intelligence: premorbid and current
  • Memory: verbal and visuospatial
  • Mental speed and sustained concentration
  • Executive function
It is known that mental deficits - especially in verbal memory and in the ability to sustain concentration are strongly associated with difficulties in re-entering employment

Psychological reports
These reports deal with the emotional consequences of accidents and injuries, which may include:

  • Anxiety Disorders, including:
    • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
    • Phobic Disorders
    • Panic Disorder
  • Depressive Disorders
  • Substance abuse
  • Pain Disorder
  • Adjustment Disorder (which can involve mixed anxiety/depressive symptoms as a response to an accident or injury).

In both neuropsychological and psychological assessments, the following areas will generally be included:

  • Background (family, social, employment, past health)
  • Clinical history (nature of injury, treatment, progress)
  • Present psychological status (based on clinical interview, sometimes supplemented by brief questionnaire measures)
  • Implications for employment and social life
  • Prognosis (incl where appropriate, treatment recommendations).
If you have a client who you consider may benefit from our services please contact us.

In order to accept a referral for a psychological/neuropsychological report, we require a written referral accompanied by any relevant medical records and case reports. On receipt of this information, which we shall acknowledge and start to progress the case.
